Welcoming a new baby is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming journey — and it’s completely natural to have questions along the way.
Whether you’re exploring what a doula does, wondering how support works during labour, or simply trying to understand if this is the right fit for you, you’re in the right place.
Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions families ask. If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to connect and offer clarity.
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
My role is to help you feel informed, confident, and cared for as you make decisions that are right for you and your family. Doulas don’t provide medical care — instead, we focus on nurturing and advocacy so you can have a positive, empowered birth experience.
Why hire a doula?
Evidence has shown that by using a doula, you are more likely to have a positive birth experience, feel in control and feel supported. Perhaps the most important element of all is continuity of care throughout your pregnancy and birth.
Do you replace my partner or medical provider?
Not at all. Your partner and your medical provider each play important roles — and I’m here to complement them, not replace them.
I support your partner by offering guidance and reassurance so they can feel confident in their role. I also work collaboratively with your care team to ensure you feel supported and heard at every stage.
When should I hire a doula?
It’s never too early or too late to reach out!
If you’re looking for birth doula support, many families choose to hire a doula in the second trimester. This means there’s plenty of time to build a relationship and prepare for birth together.
However, I have also worked with families that have connected later in pregnancy — or in the postpartum period — so reach out whenever you feel ready.
Do you attend home births and hospital births?
Yes! I support births in all settings — hospitals, birth centers, and home births — depending on where you feel most comfortable and safe.
My goal is to help you feel confident and supported no matter where or how you choose to give birth.
What happens if you’re unavailable?
I take great care to ensure to ensure I schedule clients in such a way as to ensure every family has continuous support.
In the rare event that I’m unavailable due to illness or an emergency, I have a network of trusted doulas who share my philosophy of care and will step in if needed. You’ll have the chance to connect with my backup in advance so you feel completely comfortable with your support team.
